Ever since I gave birth to my son 7 months ago, I have been waiting to “get my body back.” Every time I try to jog, my knees really bother me afterward. They will even give out if I put my weight solely on one or the other if it is in a bent position. I still have muscle aches and mild leg cramps. My back is killing me, lower and upper (though usually not at the same time). And I get severe headaches from time to time which are actually pretty debilitating. The scariest thing though is how my mind has been affected. My ability to focus and concentrate has been significantly affected. I really struggle with it because I am conscious of my own newfound deficits. My memory is almost non-existant. I can’t remember anything, even if it’s important… And my husband says that I will occassionally leave out words when I talk.
Is this normal? I mean, I am sleep deprived… Does anyone else feel like this?
I did some searching on the internet yesterday for things like brain tumors, chronic fatigue syndrome and hypothyroidism… Could it be that something else is going on?
I’m thinking that I will go to the doctor if for nothing else just to put my own mind at ease. But I worry that they won’t take my sympoms seriously because I’m a new mom. I guess there’s only one way to find out.
One interesting note is that hypothyroidism can be developed during pregnancy or after and causes premature birth. My son was born 5 weeks early… and we don’t know why. Could it be? I haven’t gained any weight though…

I found your blog so interesting. I had my daughter 04/20/06 by c-section three weeks early and developed a lot of your same symptoms. It has been a long stressfull journey for me. I would be interested to talk with you more. Maybe we could help each other.

the icarecafe would really like your help with a discussion on Hypothyroidism
Dear Friends
As you many know the icarecafe has been set up to provide a space for patients, carers and their supporters online.
Some of the members have set up a discussion group on the subject of Hypothyroidism. The group has asked lots of questions which are still in the process of being answered. So we thought it appropriate if we invited people from other Hypothyroidism discussion groups and blogs to ask if they wished to participate.
To have a look at the discussions so far please have a look at

Please do feel free to join in the discussions and to post any information which might be of interest to our members. To do so you will have to join the icarecafe.
If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch. I’m one of the moderators of the icarecafe and I can be contacted by sending and internal email to my profile.
Thanks very much in advance for your help!
Best wishes
